Theatre of Dionysus 1

FragTrag (ISSN 3057-4013) is an openly accessible, renewable, and extensible database dedicated to the life and fragmentary works (tragedies and satyr dramas) of c. 200 tragedians from the 6th century BC down to the 5th AD. In addition to offering crucial information about the lives and careers of these poets, the database features the first digital edition of their fragmentary plays. The first phase of this project (FragTrag.1), which was completed in 2024, has covered 45 poets from the 6th and the 5th centuries BC, including the pioneers of Greek theatre as well as the competitors of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides - the only three tragedians from whom we have complete plays.

The database comprises two born-digital editions:

(a) Greek Fragmentary Tragedians Online: Fragmentary Plays

Patras University Press: Patras, Greece, 2020 - present

(edited by Andreas P. Antonopoulos)

(b) Greek Fragmentary Tragedians Online: Testimonia and Biographies

Patras University Press: Patras, Greece, 2020 - present

(edited by Andreas P. Antonopoulos, Stylianos Chronopoulos, Panagiota Taktikou, Anastasia Psomiadou, and Aikaterini Giakimtsouki-Magaraki)

The data of these editions are combined and organised into a user-friendly collection for each tragic poet.

FragTrag (ISSN 3057-4013) is an ongoing electronic resource, meaning its content is continuously updated to reflect the latest research on these poets. Therefore, if you wish to quote or cite content from our editions, it is advisable to mention the exact date and time of consultation. This information can be generated automatically using the "CITE" function located at the top left of the page.
